Become a sponsor to theAverageDev (Luca Tumedei)
I was born in Bologna, Italy, where I grew up and started messing around with computers and code and nerdy stuff when I got my first PC, age 14.
After a bit of fumbling with my studies, I've started developing automated trading systems in C and made quite a successful career out of it. My first, real, bug in that context cost me 2389€ that I had to refund out of my pocket.
That was an excellent motivation to start testing my code and that got me hooked to the whole idea of testing: I had a very clear and real representation of what a bug can cause and how avoiding it would have made for a less painful experience for all the parties involved.
I've left that toxic world and moved into WordPress, and PHP, development by accident, replying "Yes" to the question "Can you build a website?". I was lying.
My first line of code was a PHPUnit test as, at the time, I had no idea one could not write tests ...
Fast-forward some time, I developed my solution to the "testing WordPress is (impossible|difficult|a-waste-of-time)" problem and have been learning and improving daily since then.
I've documented my path to knowledge, still a long one I fear, in my blog theaveragedev.com and have never lost the appetite for better, faster and more robust solutions.
Currently working on the maintenance and improvement of wp-browser to fit more and wider WordPress project needs and requirements, to streamline its set up and use and to advocate for more testing in WordPress projects in general. An uphill battle, at times.
In that regard, the funds provided by the sponsorship would allow me to concentrate my effort on the user-reported bugs and feature requests and dedicate more time and love to the solution. Furthermore, I would like to create a series of video tutorials to cover the setup and use Codeception and wp-browser to test and debug WordPress projects.
